The main event for youth and students from all over the world!
The 19th World Festival of Youth and Students is to be held on October 14-22, 2017 in Sochi, Russia.
This was decided by the World Federation of the Democratic Youth (WFDY) and the international students’ organizations on February 7, 2016, at the consultation meeting on the host country of the 19th Festival.
Russia hosted the Festival twice in 1957 (the 6th Festival) and in 1985 (the 12th Festival). The 6th World Festival of Youth and Students-1957, held in Moscow, had the widest scope in terms of the number in the history of the Festival movement.
The 19th Festival is aimed at consolidating the youth community of the world around the ideas of peace, solidarity and social justice, strengthening international youth relations as well as promoting interethnic and intercultural youth cooperation.
More than 20 000 people aged 18-35 from more than 150 countries will participate in the 19th Festival, that include leaders of youth NGOs and political parties, young journalists, artists and sportsmen, young professors and scientists, as well as compatriots and foreigners who study Russian language and are interested in the Russia’s culture.
The host country is to cover their expenses related to accommodation, meals and cultural program during the event. While transport costs to the 19th Festival (Sochi) and back are covered by participants and/or their sending organization. However, arrangement of charter flights from various countries to Sochi is currently under consideration. Participants of the 19th Festival will get permission for a visa-free entry to the Russian Federation.
The 19th Festival program will include various platforms, namely panel discussions and open lectures on the most current issues of youth policy and international relations, sport competitions as well as a wide range of amazing cultural and artistic arrangements. The key topics on the preliminary agenda are as follows: “Culture and Globalization”, “Global Economy”, “Knowledge Economy”, “Social Institutions’ Development” and “Politics and International Security”. The 19th Festival’s working languages are the 6 official languages of the United Nations.
The preparation process to the upcoming Festival is actively conducted by the Indian National Preparatory Committee heading by the Chairperson Shri Amrinder Singh Raja, President, Indian Youth Congress and Member of Legislative Assembly from Punjab. Today the National Preparatory Committee consists of 15 Indian youth member organizations.
The 19th Festival’s International Media Centre has been set up on November 1, 2016. It is comprised of young journalists and bloggers from all over the world, who will cover all activities of the event.
A large Volunteer corps will also assist in organizing the 19th Festival. It will consist of 7 000 volunteers, including foreign citizens.
