EAM Jaishankar Urges UK to Support Zero Tolerance on Terrorism After Pahalgam Attack
S. Jaishankar, Minister of External Affairs of India

India's External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar discusses the Pahalgam terror attack with UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy, emphasizing zero tolerance for terrorism. The dialogue underscores India's diplomatic efforts amid rising tensions with Pakistan.

In the wake of the devastating terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, India's External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar held a crucial discussion with UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy. The conversation centered on the cross-border nature of the attack and India's unwavering stance on zero tolerance for terrorism.

The Pahalgam attack, which occurred on April 22, resulted in the deaths of 26 civilians, including tourists from various Indian states and foreign nationals. The militant group Kashmir Resistance, believed to be linked to Pakistan-based organizations, claimed responsibility for the assault.

Minister Jaishankar, addressing the issue on social media platform X, stated, "Spoke to Foreign Secretary @DavidLammy of UK today. Discussed the cross-border terrorist attack at Pahalgam. Underlined the importance of zero tolerance for terrorism."

The UK's response has been one of strong condemnation. Foreign Secretary Lammy expressed his horror at the "horrific and cowardly terrorist attack on Kashmir," reaffirming the UK's solidarity with India in combating terrorism.

Amid escalating tensions with Pakistan, Minister Jaishankar has prioritized domestic diplomatic engagements, opting to remain in India rather than attend the BRICS Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Brazil. This decision reflects the gravity of the situation and India's focus on addressing the immediate security concerns arising from the attack.

The international community has largely supported India's position, with over 140 countries condemning the attack and expressing solidarity. Notably, 16 world leaders have personally conveyed their condolences to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, including leaders from the United States, United Kingdom, France, and China.
