Strengthening India-Russia Academic Ties: BRICS XVI Summit Hosts Round Table on Educational Cooperation

The XVI BRICS Summit in New Delhi featured a round-table dialogue on "India-Russia: Emerging Economies," enhancing educational cooperation. Organized by the BRICS International Forum and the Financial University, the event included discussions on joint research, student exchanges, and cultural understanding between India and Russia.

As part of the XVI BRICS Summit, a high-level round-table dialogue on India-Russia educational cooperation, titled "India-Russia: Emerging Economies," was successfully convened at the Constitution Club of India, New Delhi. Organized by the BRICS International Forum in collaboration with the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation and leading universities from Delhi and NCR, the event served as a significant platform to advance strategic educational partnerships between the two nations. The program commenced with a formal reception for the Financial University delegation at Jamia Millia Islamia University, followed by a ceremonial welcome at the Constitution Club of India. Dignitaries were received with traditional floral greetings and a ceremonial lamp-lighting ceremony, symbolizing the shared vision of strengthening academic collaboration and fostering cultural exchange. In her inaugural address, Ms. Purnima Anand, President of the BRICS International Forum, underscored the pivotal role of academic alliances within the BRICS framework. She reaffirmed the forum’s commitment to enhancing educational exchange as a cornerstone for mutual growth and global understanding. Mr. Stanislav Prokofiev, Rector of the Financial University, commended India’s advancements in education and reiterated Russia’s dedication to fostering deeper academic cooperation. In a symbolic gesture of respect and cultural goodwill, Mr. Prokofiev was presented with a commemorative Indian souvenir. Adding further depth to the discussions, Mr. Pavel Seleznev from the Financial University delivered a presentation on BRICS development initiatives and the university’s role in fostering knowledge exchange among BRICS nations. The event featured keynote addresses by prominent academic leaders, including:

  • Dr. Ashu Rani, Vice Chancellor, Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar University, Agra
  • Dr. P.B. Sharma, Vice Chancellor, Amity University, NOIDA
  • Dr. Alok Mishra, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Education, Government of India
  • Each speaker emphasized the growing necessity for enhanced academic and research collaborations between Indian and Russian institutions.

Ms. Liliya Prikhodko, Head of International Relations at the Financial University, highlighted the university’s extensive international engagements, showcasing its role as a leading global academic institution. The round-table discussions brought together representatives from Indian private universities to explore opportunities for:

  • Strengthening joint research initiatives
  • Facilitating student exchanges
  • Enhancing cultural understanding between India and Russia

The event concluded with the national anthems of India and Russia, followed by a formal vote of thanks.
